We had a really great experience with this cooking class! The day started with us being picked up from our hotel by bicycle, which was such a fun and relaxed way to begin. First, we went to a local market where we bought fresh ingredients and already learned a lot about Vietnamese cuisine. After that, we headed to the restaurant for the actual cooking class. One of the highlights was visiting the vegetable fields in the village, where we got interesting insights into how the ingredients are grown and sourced. Our guide, Suan, was amazing – very friendly, enthusiastic, and she explained everything clearly with a great sense of humor. You could really tell she loves what she does. Overall, it was a perfect mix of activity, culture, and delicious food. We learned a lot and had so much fun at the same time. Highly recommended! Cảm ơn!
We had such a wonderful experience here and our chef Ruby was fantastic. Highly recommend if you are looking for an authentic experience in Vietnam with excellent food
100% Empfehlung.
Amazing experience ❤️🇻🇳🥬🍤 My husband and I had the best time at the cooking class at Tra Que. Great hospitality, friendly hosts and the food was tasty! 100% recommendation 🙏
One of the best tour experiences we have ever had! From the very first moment, Xuan made us smile. She is such a friendly, lively, kind and professional guide that you immediately feel comfortable and excited for the day. She picked us up at our hotel with bicycles and we rode through the beautiful streets of Hoi An to a truly local market. There, she explained all the different kinds of food — meat, fish, vegetables and fruits — and chose some fruits we had never seen before so we could try them later. We then cycled through peaceful rice fields and arrived at the Waterwheel cooking class restaurant in the organic vegetable village of Tra Que, where everything is grown by hand. During the class, we cooked with the same fresh vegetables they grow themselves, which made the whole experience feel very authentic and special. Xuan was also our cooking teacher and she was absolutely wonderful — very professional, kind, funny and interesting. We had so much fun learning to cook, especially flipping the pancakes together. We truly felt at home, like we were spending time with friends rather than being on a tour. The food was incredible. We had the best papaya salad we have ever eaten, made from Xuan’s own recipe, and honestly some of the best food of our whole trip. The whole experience is run by strong and lovely local women. It felt much more genuine, much more authentic and much better than typical tours — with beautiful views and no crowded tourist groups. It was hard to leave because in such a short time you already get attached. We highly recommend visiting if you are in Hoi An. Charlotte and Ornella
A wonderful welcome in an atmosphere of kindness, warmth, and love. This cooking class was an incredible experience spent with passionate, caring, and welcoming people. A special « French palme » to our chef, alias Soan… With all our love. Didier & Catherine
We spent the whole morning from 8.30 to 14.00 with this fabulous team. We were picked up by our guide to go to the market (we were on a bike- others were in a taxi). We had a guided tour of the market and then after cycling to the restaurant (you can take a cab!), we had a tour of the gardens. Ruby could not have been any better with her time and thoughtfulness. Then we moved in to the cooking. We had a great deal of fun learning how to prepare four different plates. Each different each very tasty. Ruby took her time explaining why certain ingredients were used and what flavours were working together. The food was delicious. I would recommend this wholeheartedly. Thank you Ruby - an unforgettable experience.
This was one of the best experiences we had on our Vietnam trip. The cooking session making rice paper, crispy pancakes, etc was fabulous. We also did a session on how to prepare the soil for gardening plus a ride in the bamboo boat.
We cannot say enough good about this tour and these people! Our guide was Xuan who was very sweet and shared many details about her life in the villages. We experienced a boat ride on the river to collect shrimp, helped plant a garden, rode on a water buffalo and had a cooking class which we ate what we prepared. So much fun and informative. We rode bikes to it from our hotel and was guided on the scenic route through rice paddies and fields. It's close to town and was 100% worth it. ALL of the people were wonderful and we HIGHLY recommend it!
This tour was one of the best I’ve ever had! We started off riding bicycles to the market. Our awesome and amazing guide Bui, walked us around the market and taught us many things. After that we rode our bikes back through the town and the rice fields until we got to the organic garden. Bui gave us a tour around the organic garden. We were able to smell and taste many herbs that are there. When we returned to the cooking area, we were greeted with a delicious cold beverage. We learned how to make 4 courses; spring rolls, green papaya salad, a main course, and Vietnamese pancakes. Bui was able to organize everything so beautifully. Every course was delicious. After we ate everything, we were able to meet the owner and learn a little bit more about their business. I cannot think of anything that would’ve made it better. If you are trying to decide to take this class, I will tell you that you should and will thoroughly enjoy it.
We took a cooking class here and enjoyed every moment of it! Ruby, our guide, teacher, entertainer and friend was truly fantastic. She picked us up at the hotel, took us shopping for vegetable and fruit in the local market and gave us a tour of the vegetable gardens surrounding the restaurant in which we produced our own lunch. The experience was so much fun and I learned a lot, while being entertained all the while. Thank you, Ruby!
Best food so far on our trip in Vietnam. Everything fresh from farm to fork. Incredible view of their garden.
So fun activity and so good food! Spring was the best! She was so helpful, happy and loving! Such a good chef! I really recommend to go here and try the cooking class! 🤩
The day started with a tour of the market: purchase of extremely fresh ingredients, interesting explanations and recommendations for our own purchases. Arrival at Tra Que and tour of the vegetable gardens. A wonderful class with a very friendly chef, organized for a 4-course menu! All full of good humor, laughter, and finally THE tasting! Top, and I can only warmly recommend this wonderful moment... Thank you 🤩.
The food here is delicious, the service is okay.
The cooking class with Xuân and the family was wonderful! We walked in to see if we could book a cooking class and we were able to join one right away. Everyone at Water Wheel was super nice and helpful. Xuân was really good, managing everything going on at once (and it was no easy group). It was no problem that I asked to cook vegetarian. All the food was fresh and delicious. I learned a lot and had a good time!
Very good cuisine. Excellent setting. Pleasant and friendly staff. The view is cool, as it overlooks the gardens. Perfect for lunch, especially if the day is sunny. I will come back (tomorrow).
We had such a great experience, highly recommend! We came back after 8 years… We had a small tour in the market and in the farms before the class and then we got cooking. It was a fun informative experience and the food was delicious. They make adjustments for people who don’t eat certain foods. Ask for Xuân, she is absolutely the best, we loved her so much ♥️
We only had lunch at the restaurant, but we really enjoyed the place, the cuisine and the welcome! The staff was very pleasant, and the lemongrass/chili chicken was a real delight.
This farm experience pure pleasure. My gratitude goes to Vi who did a great job of showing us the community farm. One of my group was a vegetable farmer and Vi could answer all the inquisitive questions that were asked. The business is run by the Hoàng family of sisters and some female workers, girl power! This family has run their farm for 4 generations. We were shown and had to participate in how they prepare the ground and plant their crops by the grandfather. It was explained about how they grow their vegetables organically. We also learnt that these gardens keep the older generation happy as they can still contribute to the family. Buffalo riding is a must do. The elderly gentleman who helped us was such a character. We were able to banana boat ride in the river amongst the water lilies. The oarsmen picked a piece of palm frond and woven it into rings for us. The cooking class was exceptional. After having a go at grinding the rice by the traditional hand method, we were able to make rice paper over a pot of boiling water set into the brick fireplace. Then we loaded rice paper with leafy greens straight from the garden - so delicious. Next we cooked Banh Xeo, crispy Vietnamese pancakes. Lastly we made little wrapped delights called Three Friends. After frying pork and prawns we collected mint and coriander (1), added the meat (2) topped with a ixora flower and tied with blanched spring onion (3). This cooking class was like no other one that I have did. There was no endless chopping of vegetables. The mixes were ready to go. We were served our cooking efforts for lunch along with a salad and fish stew. Everything was delicious. On departure the eldest of the Hoang sisters spoke with us about their history, asked out there was anything they could do to improve their service (no answer to this question) and now that we have created memories together we are family. We left happy, heavier and clutching our recipes. 10/10
A favorite of our trip!! We only had lunch there, but if we had to do it again, we would take a cooking class. Really excellent food, super friendly service, beautiful place
Our best restaurant in Vietnam! All the products are fresh and the dishes offered are delicious. All this in the middle of the beautiful gardens of Tra Que. We regret not being able to try the cooking class (it was Tet unfortunately).
Thank you Xuan for this magnificent day you gave us! Everything was perfect: the discovery of the market and the village of Tra Que, the cooking class, the meal and the sharing of your magnificent culture that you did with heart. It was an unforgettable moment for us.
Everything was perfect, we loved our experience with Spring, our guide and chef for the morning! Tour of the local market, bike ride to the restaurant passing through the rice fields, tour of the gardens and explanations of aromatic herbs, then cooking class with excellent recipes! We learned a lot of things and the cooking class location is very soothing :) Thanks again to Spring for her kindness
