This is a great spot just outside of the main tourist zone. I stopped in for a banh ep one night. The staff were patient and helpful when I didn't know how or what to order. The food was good. If you're looking for an authentic Vietnamese experience, this place is for you. I know that I will be coming back.

Banh Ep 1998 is located right on Chau Thi Vinh Te Street, easy to find and quite crowded in the late afternoon. I stopped by to try it and found it to be a very decent snack spot in its price range. The main dish is Hue-style pressed cake (banh ep Hue), the cake is served hot, moderately chewy, and you can choose to have it pressed crispy. The fillings are diverse, such as pate, egg, meat, served with fresh herbs and a fairly flavorful dipping sauce that suits my taste. In addition, there are pressed bread and pressed cake sandwiches, which are also tasty, convenient, and quick. The snack menu is quite rich, including chicken feet, mixed fermented pork roll (tre tron), rice paper with egg (banh trang trung)... suitable for groups ordering multiple dishes to share. Prices are generally cheap, suitable for students. The shop is a sidewalk style, so the space is simple, sometimes crowded and you have to wait a bit, but the service is fast and the food is hot. Overall: a delicious snack shop with good prices, worth trying if you like Hue-style pressed cake and snacks. Personal rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

The pressed cake here is very delicious, authentic Hue flavor, making me come here many times. If you want to enjoy delicious pressed cake, this is the right choice, it won't disappoint you 😍😍😍. Besides, I also like the chicken feet here, my favorite dish 😘

Nothing more to say than the other comments, delicious, cheap and original, I had been passing by for a while and it caught my eye, I am not disappointed.
I like local vibes when I travel. There were no Koreans at all, and no foreigners either, haha. I just saw only Vietnamese people eating there, so I stopped by, haha. I went last year and went again this year. It's a restaurant I've visited twice, haha.

I personally find it okay, having eaten bánh ép in Huế, I'd rate it about 7/10, the tré trộn is delicious

A local food? Snack? Street food? not well known to tourists. Anyway, I ate it so deliciously~ Especially, there were many young women who came alone... It seems to be a menu loved by Vietnamese women because it's cheap and delicious lol. I ate three kinds: banh ap, banh mi ap, banh trang tron, and the price was only 15,000 VND (800 won), which was even more shocking lol.
The Huế Pressed Cake Eatery 1998 is absolutely wonderful! The dishes are served piping hot, the pressed cake looks beautiful on the outside, and it tastes delicious, served with fresh herbs and pickled vegetables that are very authentic to Huế cuisine. The dipping sauce is just right, not too sweet or too salty, with a bit of chili that gives a spicy kick that's absolutely delightful. The restaurant space is simple, clean, and comfortable to sit in. Service is fast, friendly, and lovely. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. As a student, it's very affordable ❤️ If you're passing through this area, you definitely should try it—you'll surely want to come back again!
Bought a box of Thai-style chicken feet, but the smell was unbearable, had to throw it away. No idea how long those chicken feet had been sitting there, sigh.
Let's go, eating for the experience is okay. It's my first time trying pressed cake so I can't compare it with other shops, but the grilled rice paper is too oily.
Temporary, I find it not very hygienic. I noticed the chopsticks and scissors were a bit greasy and dirty. I wiped them off and found it disgusting. Flies were swarming everywhere.
The prices are really affordable and it's a place full of locals. Every menu item was uniquely delicious and good. There's no alcohol, but they give you cola if you ask. It's good to visit once for a snack.
