New Day Coffee: a garden café with a pool and koi in Da Nang
A green oasis in Cẩm Lệ — turquoise water, orchids overhead and drinks that cost next to nothing
If you want to escape the heat and the city noise without paying for somewhere fancy, New Day is exactly it. It is a simple family café in the Cẩm Lệ district, tucked away in a yard behind a blue fence. You step in — and land in a little green oasis: everything is drowning in plants, and in the middle sits a real swimming pool with turquoise water.
Greenery, orchids and koi
Dozens of orchids and ferns hang overhead, the walls are painted with mountains and waterfalls. There is a separate koi pond, a neat blue bridge and a little rockery with a waterfall. Shade, a light breeze, the sound of water — you can sit here for hours, especially with a laptop or a book.
This is not an Instagram café at tourist prices — it is a real local spot: quiet, green and almost free.
Drinks and prices
The menu is the classic Vietnamese set: coffee, tea, fresh juices, yogurts (sữa chua). Nothing avant-garde, but honest and tasty — and the prices are local, a fraction of what you pay by the sea in the centre. For the cost of one cocktail on the waterfront you can spend half a day here.
Is it worth the trip?
New Day is not about food or an ocean view. It is about hiding away in the greenery, breathing out and being in no hurry. It is a bit off the tourist trail (Cẩm Lệ district), but if you are on a bike the detour is well worth it. A great place to work, wait out the midday heat, or come with kids — they will love the water.
