34 Tropical: the foggy café hidden in the middle of Da Nang

On one of Da Nang's central, utterly unremarkable streets, right next to a petrol station, hides a café you can barely find without a map — or without asking someone who has already been. From outside it is just an ordinary driveway: motorbikes, a neon sign buried in greenery. You walk under the arch — and step into another world.

The atmosphere people come for

Inside you are met by an amazing atmosphere of fog and mystery — real tropics in the middle of the city. Waist-high ferns, the low glow of old lanterns, paths wrapped in mist that drifts right under your feet. The air feels a couple of degrees cooler than the street — and not only because of the fog.

This is not a place to grab a quick coffee. People come here to sink in for an hour or two.

The pavilion, terrariums and grotto

There is a covered carved pavilion with air conditioning — dark wood, antique lamps, woven loungers you just melt into. Along the walls are terrariums, some with live animals, so you will not get bored. And further in there is a real grotto with fog and lighting that is simply lovely to step into and photograph.

Drinks and desserts

The drinks here are great, and the sweets are just as good — those tiramisu cubes and berry lemonades you want to photograph before you even taste them. There is proper food too — ‘Bếp 34’: pho, banh mi, bo kho. Prices are a touch above the city average, but for an atmosphere like this it is worth it.

Is it worth going?

Absolutely — if you want not just coffee but a little adventure in the middle of the city. Just put the address into your map beforehand, or you will genuinely drive right past.
