Hoi An Speeds Up Coastal Erosion Control Project with AFD Support
On the afternoon of June 15, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee Le Quang Nam chaired a meeting with a delegation from the French Development Agency (AFD) to assess the progress of the Hoi An Coastal Erosion Control and Sustainable Protection Project. This is an important project to protect the long coastline of the ancient town, which is facing severe erosion due to climate change and human impact.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed specific solutions to accelerate project implementation. AFD is the main sponsor, providing technical and financial support for this project. Vice Chairman Le Quang Nam emphasized the importance of completing the project on schedule, not only to protect coastal properties and infrastructure but also to maintain Hoi An’s tourist appeal – one of Vietnam’s top destinations.
The project includes items such as breakwaters, beach nourishment, mangrove planting, and the construction of an early warning system. Once completed, it will help reduce erosion risks, stabilize the coastline, and create conditions for sustainable socio-economic development in the region. Tourists and local residents can feel more confident about Hoi An’s beach landscape in the coming years.
