Da Nang Builds a Comprehensive Value Chain for Ngoc Linh Ginseng in the Southwestern Region
Ngoc Linh ginseng has long been regarded as one of Vietnam's most prized medicinal herbs. In Da Nang, this plant is being seen not only as a resource worth preserving, but also as a promising economic driver for the mountainous communities in the city's southwestern reaches.
Rather than stopping at gene conservation and expanding cultivation areas, city authorities are charting a course toward a closed-loop, sustainable value chain. The journey involves multiple tightly linked stages: scientific research, high-quality seedling production, deep processing of ginseng-derived products, quality certification under clear standards, and the building and promotion of a brand in both domestic and international markets.
This approach brings meaningful hope to communities living in remote mountain areas far from the city center. As Ngoc Linh ginseng is developed more systematically and with greater added value, local residents gain more opportunities to take part in the production chain in a sustainable way, rather than depending on harvesting from the wild. It is also a direction well-aligned with the growing trend of agri-tourism and medicinal herb tourism — an area that many localities across Central Vietnam have been actively tapping into in recent years.
