Da Nang Verifies Incident of Tourists Wearing Ao Dai with Bikini in Hoi An Ancient Town
In recent days, images of several foreign tourists wearing traditional ao dai paired with bikinis while strolling in the Hoi An Ancient Town quickly spread on social media, causing public outrage. Immediately after, authorities in Da Nang stepped in to verify and clarify the incident.
According to sources from authorities, management forces are coordinating with relevant units to check the information, identify the tourists' identities and behavior. Wearing the ao dai – a symbol of traditional Vietnamese women's attire – but combining it with swimwear is considered inappropriate, disrespectful to culture, and offensive in a heritage space like Hoi An Ancient Town.
Many local residents and tourists in the area expressed their hope that authorities will soon take measures to remind and educate visitors, raising their awareness to avoid inappropriate behaviors that affect the image of civilized and friendly tourism. Hoi An Ancient Town – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – must be protected and honored according to its inherent values. The incident is continuing to be verified and handled in accordance with legal regulations.
